Planning it well
Plan the day around the nap, not the other way round. A christening crowd splits neatly into under-5s, school-age cousins and adults who want to talk, so give each group its own patch. Soft play in a shaded corner or the hall, the castle further out for the bigger kids, and chairs where the grandparents can see everything without being in it. If the do follows a church service, ask us to set up while you are out.
Gardens around Faringdon and the villages tend to be generous but sloped, and marquees eat more lawn than people expect. Measure before you book, then tell us the surface and any side gates in the notes. If you are using the village hall, check the hall's finish time and whether food is allowed on the floor before you plan the buffet. And feed the kids early. A child who has eaten at four is a delight until seven.
Christenings & Family Days: your questions
Can you set up while we are at the church service?
Yes, and it is the tidiest way to do it. Most christening bookings have us arrive once the party has left for church, so the garden or hall is ready when everyone walks back in. Leave access instructions in the booking notes, a side gate or a keyholder is all we need, and the kit will be up and checked before the first guest arrives.
What works for a party with ages from six months to eighty?
Split the kit by age rather than hoping one thing suits everyone. Soft play for the babies and toddlers, the bouncy castle for children up to twelve, and giant games for everybody else, because no grandparent has ever refused a game of croquet. Keep seating near the little ones so the adults supervising still feel part of the party.
We only have a small garden. What if the weather turns?
Plan a two-room day. Soft play and a few of the giant games fit happily in a lounge, conservatory or village hall, and most halls have the height for the castle too. If high winds or heavy rain are forecast we call the day before and either move things indoors, swap your date free of charge, or refund the castle in full.
